Junior Highjinks

Every week, we give our junior high teens a scripture verse and saint quote to memorize. They have an opportunity the following week to write out what they memorized, and we hold a drawing for prizes.

Last night, was the first drawing of the youth group year. When I pulled out the drawing box during announcements, I saw only one slip of paper. Ever the optimistic youth minister, I thought, "This is great, some lucky kid is guaranteed a prize and all of the other teens will see how good their chances are of winning."

In front of everyone, I pulled out the slip or paper and read it aloud:

Name: Little Jimmy*
Saint Quote: God Rocks. Kats cool oh ya.

I busted out laughing in front of everyone. Little Jimmy didn't remember writing that saint quote and didn't recognize the handwriting. He told me later Little Johnny** had written that Saint Quote back in April, and it had been sitting in my drawing box all summer.

I pinned that saint quote to my bulletin board.

*Not his real name.

That was pretty funny to see. I'd say that's worth a prize for Little Jimmy*, if only in pity for the slight embarrassment that occurred when his name was called. It was very creative on Little Johnny**'s part, though. Ahh, the adventures of Youth Ministry...
